Everybody Gets Stuck Sometimes

What’s your reset ritual? In those moments when everything feels off, what does it take to flip the switch and get back into the swing of things?

On a recent Friday morning, I was just “off.” I couldn’t wake up to get myself into the gym, which I have been diligently doing all month. When I did get there, it was already 10:30am.

My thoughts were elsewhere, with a few friends who are struggling with various things and thinking about some longer-term strategic decisions Tom and I need to make.

When I finished in the gym and had my coffee, things still weren’t clicking. I diligently struggled through my sales pipeline, but a hint of pessimism crept in where I normally feel most optimistic.

Couldn’t get myself going on some artwork and layouts for a workshop I’m trying to finalize.

It was just one of those days where I felt like I was slogging through waist-deep mud.

So, I hit my reset early. Instead of waiting until 6 or so, I jumped into the kitchen at 3:45. Started pumping my 2026 Eurovision playlist (it’s that time of the year). Took out a slab of ribs that was defrosting, peeled off the silverskin, and made my dry rub mix to go along with my homemade BBQ sauce. Flipped on the pressure cooker and let the aromas of liquid smoke and spices fill the air.

Boom. Switched back on just in time for an afternoon call, and after that, I could work on that pesky layout.

Everybody gets stuck sometimes. It’s good to know what it takes to get back on track.

At Teamwork Unlocked, we help teams that feel stuck by running a diagnostic assessment in the most fun way possible: an escape room. For more information on our award-winning Submerged workshop, click here.
