The Competitor Profile

“We only have 33 minutes left! Move it! Move it!”
“We’ve gotten this far in 27 minutes, that’s awesome.”

“Should we take a hint? Let’s take a hint.”
“No! I don’t want to take a hint!”
“But we need to get out of here!”
“We can do it WITHOUT the hints!”

It’s easy to spot a Competitor in an escape room, but it might surprise you to learn that all of the above quotes come from Competitors.

In both business and leadership training, it’s important not to lose sight of the goal. Whether it’s hitting a sales quota, hiring a team by a deadline, gaining market share, or winning a case in court, Competitors are laser-focused on results and will do whatever it takes to get there. Sometimes that means hustling the team forward; other times, dragging them (kicking and screaming) across the finish line.

There are many types of Competitors:

  • Some want to reach the target by any means necessary.
  • Others have a personal milestone they’re determined to achieve.
  • Many thrive on improving compared to past results.
  • And of course, there are those who simply want to be the best.

This drive is critical for teams. Without Competitors, deadlines slip, mediocrity becomes acceptable, and in competitive environments, companies risk being overtaken. Through pushing their teams to achieve the seemingly impossible, Competitors raise performance levels across the board. That’s why this role is so valuable in both team development training and leadership escape room training.

But there’s a flip side. For those less competitive by nature, the pressure radiating from Competitors can feel intimidating, even demotivating. Competitors are often quick to anger if they sense they’re falling behind, and their frustration may disrupt team harmony. Some even abandon the mission altogether if they don’t see a clear path to total victory, forgetting that a partial win is better than no progress at all. These are the dynamics we see come alive in escape room Singapore workshops - lessons that can be safely tested, debriefed, and improved upon in a controlled, experiential setting.
