Vulnerability in the Workplace

Imagine creating a space that inadvertently destroys a feeling of safety for someone. I’m a believer that tears in a meeting aren’t a spectacle - they should be taken as a sign that someone is having an honest, human moment with you.

I knew someone who would casually mention, in our one-on-one meetings, specifics about another colleague crying in their meetings. How that information was shared just didn’t sit well with me. Not because emotion doesn’t belong at work (I sincerely believe it does), but because those moments - with rare exceptions - are not for sharing.

When someone reaches a breaking point in front of you, they’re trusting you. They’re showing you the weight they’ve been carrying. That’s not a story to pass on. You owe it to that person to respect their privacy and hold that moment with care. That principle sits at the core of leadership training: protecting trust so it can grow stronger, not weaker.

Psychological safety doesn’t just mean “feeling free to speak up in meetings.” I think this broad definition has allowed people to treat these situations too lightly. Psych safety should also mean: “I can be vulnerable with you, and trust you won’t use it against me later.” That’s why, in our leadership escape room training, we design experiences where teams practice trust in real time, not just talk about it. In a high-pressure escape room Singapore challenge, the ability to create and protect safety becomes the key to progress.

I’ve been in tense meetings before, and I think it’s important to remember: if someone cries in a meeting with you, the goal isn’t to fix them. It’s to witness them, to protect the moment, and to make it clear - through action, not words - that they’re still respected, safe, and strong in your eyes. That is what real team development training looks like.

I wanted to share this one with all the managers, leaders, and coaches as a reminder: trust is fragile. Don’t fumble it trying to sound insightful. Some stories are not ours to tell.

These are the kinds of insights we unlock in the world’s first B2B escape room training program designed for leadership training Singapore, team building, and lasting trust.
