Only Murders in the... Submarine?

For about eight weeks a year, nothing bonds my family closer together than the show Only Murders in the Building.
For those who don’t know, the show centers around three unlikely friends - two septuagenarians: one-hit wonder actor Charles Haden-Savage (played by Steve Martin) and eccentric off-broadway theater director Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), along with finding-herself millennial Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez). Drawn together for their love of true-crime podcasts, the trio create a podcast of their own when solving a murder that happened in their older, yet still rather posh New York apartment complex, the Arconia.
Over the course of five seasons, the show mixes comedy with endearing moments, along with some of the most clever whodunit mysteries you’ll see.
As a fan of the genre and the actors, I immediately wanted to watch it, but now it’s a daily topic of conversation with my family. We watch each episode multiple times, dissecting each visual clue and line. It’s not uncommon for me to come home to see my wife and daughters watching scenes on freeze frame, trying to read scraps of paper that quickly flash on screen. Just like the characters on the show, my youngest daughter made her own “Murder Board” where she tracks clues and suspects, trying to piece things together.
As a family, we’ve had some great successes (we solved Season 3 to an alarming degree of precision) and some wild misses (we hoped against hope for a “twins” theory in Season 4 as we desperately wanted a favorite character to remain on the show). Each weekly episode brings new clues and tantalizing reveals that make us rethink everything we’ve known to be true (and redraw the Murder Board).
My family doesn’t love games and puzzles as much as I do, but I’m happy we have this one we can work on together.
We provide our own puzzles at Teamwork Unlocked, where we run workshops using escape rooms specifically designed to draw out business insights on how your team performs as a group. Can you solve our mysteries? Check our our Submerged workshop here.
