The Solver Profile

I’ve learned a lot about the 9 Key Profiles for Effective Teams by watching over 150 corporate teams participate in escape room training sessions. Take The Solver, for example.
Solvers exist on every team. They’re the ones who want to figure things out. They think deeply about problems and come up with solutions to move the team forward.
In the context of an escape room Singapore experience, I’ve observed Solvers find a puzzle, park themselves in front of it, and brood over it until they crack the code. These breakthroughs often propel the team forward to the next challenge - a vital role in both games and real-world leadership training.
But sometimes, Solvers hit a wall.
Even in business, not every problem is ready to be solved the moment it’s uncovered. Sometimes the information isn’t all there, or pieces of the puzzle are still missing. Solvers can develop tunnel vision, becoming stubborn or frustrated when they’re stuck. They may see being “stuck” as failure, and their ego can prevent them from realizing that their skills are being applied in the wrong place at the wrong time.
That said, Solvers are still mission-critical. Every great team needs them to clear complex challenges. The trick is helping Solvers identify whether they have all the information they need - and then letting them loose to do what they do best. This dynamic is exactly what we surface in our leadership escape room training workshops, where patterns of problem-solving become visible under pressure.
At Teamwork Unlocked, we run experiential leadership training Singapore programs using escape rooms. These sessions go beyond theory, giving teams the chance to see how roles like the Solver operate in practice - and how they interact with Communicators, Organizers, Mavericks, and more. It’s an immersive way to build stronger collaboration, improve problem-solving, and strengthen team building skills.
