Why is it that sports professionals train every day, but corporate training is so sporadic? I can understand that individual athletes are paid millions per year, and the business depends on them performing well. But companies also collectively spend millions on employee salaries (with top execs earning millions on their own) and need to perform every day of the year. You’d think that just like top-notch athletes train every day, top-notch employees would train more often.

Sadly, most corporate training or management development programs I’ve taken part in were compliance-driven “tick the box” exercises, or development programs that I soon forgot about a few days after completing. Perhaps the programs themselves are lacking.
